I was recently able to receive a Comprehensive Gut Biome and Health Test from Verisana Laboratories! Being the gut bacteria and gut health obsessed person that I am, I was very excited to see how my gut microbiome balance was, especially because I have been working on my gut health for so long.
Although I was gifted this test in return for an honest review, these thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Why would I want a gut microbiome test?
The gut and the bacteria that reside there are an intricate component of health. Imbalances in the microbiome, leaky gut, and other gut disturbances can lead to a myriad of health problems and poor immune system function. A comprehensive stool test such as the one offered by Verisana is able to pinpoint what imbalances are present in the gut microbiome as well as other disturbances that could be contributing to poor health. According to the website, “Our Comprehensive Gut Biome & Health Test helps you to get a comprehensive picture of your gut health as the state of your gastrointestinal system is extremely important for your overall well-being.”
What does the test the measure?
According to the website, “your results will provide detailed information about whether your escherichia coli, proteus, citrobacter, klebsiella, other enterobacteriaceae, enterococci, pseudomonas, bacteroides, bifidobacteria, lactobacilli, clostridia, pH-Value, candida albicans, candida spec., geotrichum candidum, yeast, helicobacter pylori, pancreatic elastase 1, alpha-1-Antitrypsin and secretory IgA levels are normal, low, or high compared to reference ranges in your age group. You can then discuss the results with your doctor or health practitioner, who can give you further guidance and treatment recommendations.”
Why do one on my own?
A test such as this one could be done to check the status of the gut. If everything comes back normal, great; if there are disturbances, then you know it is worth your time to book an appointment with a health practitioner. Also, Verisana will point you in the direction of a practitioner to help you if you should desire them to do so.
My experience with Verisana Laboratories
Throughout this process, the team at Verisana has been excellent to work with! They sent out the sample collection kit promptly with fast shipping so I got it within a couple days. The sample collection process had easy to follow instructions and was very straightforward and as uncomplicated as it could possibly be. Any questions I had were answered quickly, and the customer service team was always polite and friendly. Once received, the results only took a couple weeks and I received an email with a two page PDF of details with some analysis regarding the results. Also, there was a recommendation to meet with my health provider for a more detailed plan moving forward. With my results, I was able to tell that my gut bacteria were in pretty good shape, although there were some imbalances and there was room for improvement. I was also able to tell I did not have any yeast overgrowth and the other measured analytes were in the proper ranges. The most important realization for me was that all I have been doing to improve my gut health, including probiotics and fermented food, removing food sensitivities, and a real food diet with proper supplements, are in fact working positively toward better health.
Are there any drawbacks?
A test as comprehensive as this one will need to be interpreted by a professional who is well versed in such a detailed result. Recommendations to improve gut health moving forward will need to be offered by a practitioner who can look at the specific imbalances and come up with a proper treatment plan.
